"Nestor" and "Uncle Thomas, ..." finalists of Quirino Awards

The short animation films "Nestor" and "Uncle Thomas, Accounting for the Days" are nominated for more than three categories of the Ibero- American Animation Quirino Awards, to be held from April 16th to 18th in Tenerife (Spain).

In this third edition of the Quirino Awards, Portugal stands out among the remaining finalists, with more than 10 nominations. "Nestor" by João Gonzalez is the film with the most nominations (four) and "Uncle Thomas, Accounting for the Days" by Regina Pessoa has three nominations.

"Nestor", João Gonzalez's second film, was made in the first year of his master's degree project in Animation at the Royal College of Art in London. It had its premiere in November last year at the Cinanima Festival, where it was awarded as "Best Film in National Competition". In the Quirino Awards, the film is nominated for the categories of "Best School Animation Short Film", "Best Visual Development of Animation Work", "Best Original Sound and Music Design" and "Best Animation Design of Iberoamerican Animation Work".

"Uncle Thomas, Accounting for the Days" is Regina Pessoa's most recent film co-produced between Portugal (Abi Feijó, Ciclope Filmes), France (Reginald de Guillebon, Les Armateurs) and Canada (Julie Roy, ONF), and it has been recognized worldwide, winning awards at renowned festivals like Annie Awards (EUA), Annecy (France), Animamundi, Animafix and Animage (Brazil), Imaginária, and Riga IFF (Latvia). In the Quirino Awards, the short film is nominated for "Best Iberoamerican Animation Short Film", "Best Iberoamerican Animation Work Design" and "Best Iberoamerican Animation Work Visual Development".

Among the 22 finalist films are productions from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Paraguay, Portugal and Spain.
