The distinction was awarded by the Short Cuts Competition jury, in the Best Animated Short Film category, during the film's world premiere.
"Terminal", by Alexandre Siqueira, received an Honourable Mention in the Best Animated Short Film category of the Short Cuts Competition, awarded at the close of the 51st Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), on 20 September. The category's main award went to "Into The Betaverse", by Varun Raman and Tom Hancock.
This is an unprecedented distinction for a majority-Portuguese production in this competition. The Mention was given as part of the world premiere of "Terminal", held in Toronto. The film is produced by BAP – Animation Studios (Portugal), in co-production with XBO Films (France) and Studio Kimchi (Spain).
The jury — Joecar Hanna, Chris Lavis and Iris Ng — praised the film's balance of poetry and surrealism, describing it as a delicate allegory of loss and grief.
This October, the film will screen at the 71st Seminci, in Valladolid. Read the full story here.
