Pedro Serrazina's animation film celebrates the 30th anniversary of its international premiere at 49th Cannes Film Festival.

The short film “Tale About The Cat And The Moon” (Pedro Serrazina, 1995, Portugal, ANI, 6′) celebrates the 30th anniversary of its international premiere at the 1996 edition of Cannes Film Festival. “I recently returned to the festival and found it on an even bigger scale — much bigger — but I still remember the privilege of those first moments. The amazement of seeing the film projected on what felt like a massive screen, with an image and sound quality that, nostalgically, I feel I never experienced again,” recalls Pedro Serrazina about the premiere of his first film on the French Riviera.

Three decades after Portugal first had an animated film in Cannes’ Official Competition, the director also underscores the international recognition that animated cinema has since gained, emphasizing the particularly important moment the sector is currently experiencing. Following the release of a special edition dedicated to the film at Batalha Centro de Cinema, “Tale About The Cat And The Moon” will return to the big screen at the 34th Curtas Vila do Conde – International Film Festival in an expanded version, accompanied by a new live soundtrack composed and performed by Mão Morta Redux. The film-concert will also feature “The Eyes Of The Lighthouse” and “Shadows of Ourselves”.
