There are several Portuguese films in focus at the 31st edition of Curtas Vila do Conde – International Film Festival, which runs from 8 to 16 July.
In the National Competition section, there will be the films 'Shimmering Bodies' by Inês Teixeira (Portugal, 2023, FIC, 23 min); '2720' by Basil da Cunha (Portugal / Switzerland, 2023, FIC, DOC, 24 min); 'Cul-De-Sac' by Mário Macedo and Vanja Vascarac (Croatia / Portugal, 2023, EXP, FIC, 18 min); 'Sonido: Ivans & Tobis' by Diogo Baldaia (Portugal, 2023, FIC, 20 min); 'Cold Soup' by Marta Monteiro (Portugal / France, 2023, ANI, 9 min; 'Almost Forgotten' by Dimitri Mihajlovic and Miguel Lima (Portugal 2023, ANI, 9 min); and 'Human Nature' by Mónica Lima, Portugal / Germany, 2023, FIC, 25 min).
As part of the New Voices programme, João Gonzalez will also be in the spotlight at the 31st Curtas Vila do Conde, the festival where he presented 'Voyager' in 2017 and 'Nestor' in 2019, both in the schools competition, and where, in 2022, he premiered 'Ice Merchants', just weeks after being awarded the Critics' Week Jury Prize at Cannes.
'The Long Legged Man' by Vitor Hugo Rocha (2023, Portugal, ANI, 8 min) and 'Pátio do Carrasco – The Damned Yard' by André Gil Mata (2023, Portugal, FIC, 46 min) are two of the films in focus in the Portuguese Panorama programme, which presents a selection of the best Portuguese short films that premiered, over the last year, in different national and international festivals.
Finally, a note to the masterclass 'Survival Manual for the World of Festivals', conducted by Emanuel Oliveira / Portuguese Short Film Agency, in the scope of the Take One! competition, with the purpose of helping young directors to define the best strategies for the distribution of their films.
