​​Best short film for Laura Gonçalves at Zagreb

"The Garbage Man" is the most recent film from the Portuguese filmmaker and it won the Grand Prix and the Audience Award for best short film at Animafest Zagreb, one of the most important animation festivals in the world.

In its international premiere, "The Garbage Man", by Laura Gonçalves, won two awards at the Zagreb World Festival of Animated Film. The jury of the Grand Competition awarded "The Garbage Man" with the prize for Best Short Film in competition for the "tenderness with which it tells its story of generosity in the midst of political and economic hardship in Portugal”.

The Portuguese filmmaker also won the Audience Award at the 32nd edition of Animafest Zagreb. "The Garbage Man" has recently won three awards at this year's Monstra, and is now heading to another great animation festival, Festival International du Film d'Animation d'Annecy. The short film was produced by BAP - Animation Studios.

Grand Competition Short Film Jury´s statement: Many things impressed us in this film. The naturalism of the dialogue. The warmth and intimacy of the family setting. But most of all, the tenderness with which it tells its story of generosity in the midst of political and economic hardship in Portugal. And also, the monkey.
