"Perpetual Night" by Pedro Peralta received the Best International Short Award at the Filmfest Gent.

Pedro Peralta's most recent short film, "Perpetual Night", received the Best International Short Award at the Filmfest Gent, that started on the 13th October in that Belgian city.

Produced by Terratreme (Portugal) with co-production with KinoElektron (France) and with international distribution by AGENCIA - Portuguese Short Film Agency, "Perpetual Night" is inspired by the events that took place in the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War, in 1939.

The jury, consisting of director and musician Baloji, Bulgarian director Eliza Petkova and director Dorian Jespers, justified the award of 5000 Eur as follows: When we came out of the screening, we all agreed immediately that we were in the presence of a director who has things to say and is able to structure his narrative. The night and nature were surrounding us; the silence was full, the moonlight was global. Our senses were devoted to Peralta’s choreography. The most natural pace, the continuous present, allowed this historical story to develop under tension. As Albert Serra would say: "It’s a past that is being born again." The past as a common memory or dream that started long before the screening and will go on forever, our perpetual night. We are honoured to present this award to Pedro Peralta.

"Perpetual Night" is the second short film by Pedro Peralta who, in 2016, directed “Ascension”, a work that had international debut at the Critics' Week at the Cannes Film Festival and was present at around 70 festivals around the world, having received numerous awards, such as the Tree of Life Award at IndieLisboa, the Best Short Film and the Jury Award at the Kyiv International Film Festival «Molodist», Des Enfants de La Licorne Award at the International du Film d'Amiens Festival, among others.
