Filipe Melo

Biography

He studied at Hot Clube de Portugal and Berklee College of Music in Boston. He studied piano with Joanne Brackeen and Ray Santisi and composition and orchestration with Alejandro Erlich Oliva. In 2007, he co-directed “Um Mundo Catita,” the first fiction series produced by RTP2 (6 episodes). In 2018, he directed a short film entitled “Sleepwalk,” based on the comic book of the same name. In 2021, he wrote and directed the short film “O Lobo Solitário” (The Lone Wolf), which won the audience award at the Vila do Conde Short Film Festival and was screened at the Clermont-Ferrand Festival and on the ARTE channel. This film was also shortlisted for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Oscars, being the first Portuguese live-action film to feature in this category. Both of the short films he directed won the Sophia Award from the Portuguese Film Academy. He is the author of award-winning comic books, translated into several languages and distributed internationally.
