"Because Today is Saturday" received the Prix de la Ville d’Annecy (City of Annecy Prize) at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival
The animated short film Because Today is Saturday, directed by Alice Eça Guimarães, has been awarded the Prix de la Ville d’Annecy (City of Annecy Prize) at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, the world's leading animation film festival.
Selected for the Perspectives Short Films competition, the film received one of the festival's official awards, further cementing the remarkable international journey it has been building since its premiere.
Over the past few months, Because Today is Saturday has screened at dozens of international film festivals and received several major accolades, including the Grand Prize and the Governor of Tokyo Award at the Tokyo Anime Award Festival, the Audience Award at Regensburger Kurzfilmwoche (Germany), the Grand Prize at ANIMED (Spain), and the Best Animated Short Film Award at PÖFF Shorts – Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival, which qualified the film for Academy Awards® consideration.
Because Today is Saturday is produced by Animais AVPL, in co-production with La Clairière Ouest (France) and Studio Kimchi (Spain), with the participation of Filmaporto – Porto Film Commission and Filmes do Pinguim. The film was supported by Instituto do Cinema e do Audiovisual (ICA), CNC, Région Grand Est, ICAA, and ICEC.
