Jorge Quintela's documentary makes its commercial debut in Portugal today at the Cinema Trindade.
The short film "Stop - Rehearsal Rooms for a Historical Materialism" (Jorge Quintela, 2025, Portugal, DOC, 23′) is preparing for its first week in Portuguese cinemas at Cinema Trindade.
The film directed by Jorge Quintela celebrates its commercial premiere in Portugal with a special screening on Thursday, January 2nd, with the presence of the director and Rodrigo Affreixo.
The film explores the transformation over the decades of the STOP Shopping Centre, located in Bonfim, Porto. This iconic space, which for over 20 years has served as a rehearsal and incubation site for Porto music, is portrayed in the light of Walter Benjamin's materialist critique, especially in the context of the Book of Passages. Stop also documents the events of July 2023, when the space was the target of a police eviction, closing the rehearsal rooms and leaving the future of one of the last strongholds of the city's independent art scene in the balance.
