Biography
American filmmaker, living in New York, Bill Morrison is one of the leading exponents of contemporary experimental cinema. Since the early 90s, Morrison has been working mainly from archive material and found footage, reinterpreting old films in new narratives and reflections on the status of images. In the 21st edition, Morrison was filmmaker In Focus at the Festival, with the screening of several of his works, both in the film theatre and in Solar, including "Decasia: The State of Decay", his masterpiece. As film archaeologist, Morrison recovers the memory of old films, a mixture of fascination and melancholy by the magic of moving images. Key in this process is the role of music, specially composed for his projects by numerous different American composers. In 2015, Morrison re-edits and manipulates a series of moving images from the National Archive of Moving Images, in a project produced by Curtas Metragens CRL. The film will be played live with music by the American band Lambchop.
