Born in Angola, Paulo has been to many places and, being quick to the draw, always has a reason to put pen to paper. From time to time he packs his bags and goes off to draw in real time, on tour with the classical music group Toy Ensemble, not only in Portugal, but in Brazil as well, where he barely missed sharing a dressing room with the singer Ivete Sangalo – the Brazilian answer to Beyoncé. Some days find him busy doing graphic design, as for the catalogue for the Álvaro Siza In Italia exhibition at the San Luca Academy in Rome, Italy. Other days see him working on video mapping, like the one at Vale do Ave Time-Space Interpretative Centre, Portugal, but when he gets a bit dizzy, cartoons bring him back to reality. Surpresa (Surprise) was his first short film. Before that, only very short films. In between: drawings, illustrations, comics, and writing for many Portuguese and foreign periodicals, from Expresso to the Swiss weekly Die Wochenzeitung, as well as prestigious anthologies, such as the German Pictoplasma and the French Oupus. Paulo Patrício is regularly invited to join group exhibitions, such as 1 Século, 10 Lápis, 100 Desenhos (1 Century, 10 Pencils, 100 drawings) that opened at the Portuguese Presidential Museum, and Celebrating 9th Art, that showed at Comicdom Con in Athens. Those in the know claim he’s a complete artist. Paulo hasn’t noticed anything missing either.
