The animated films directed by Maria Trigo Teixeira, Alexandra Ramires and Laura Gonçalves were honoured at the 2024 edition of the World Animation Festival.
At the 2024 edition of the Festa Mundial da Animação, the short films ‘It Shouldn't Rain Tomorrow’ (Maria Trigo Teixeira, 2024, Germany / Portugal, ANI, 11‘) and 'Percebes' (Alexandra Ramires / Laura Gonçalves, 2024, France / Portugal, ANI / DOC, 11’) were awarded the Best Film Prize and the Honourable Mention in the Professional Films category, respectively.
The awards ceremony took place on Sunday, October 27th at 2.30 pm at the Cine Teatro Avenida (Castelo Branco).
The jury committee, made up of George Sifianos, Mathieu Rey and Camille Bozec, made the following statements about the films: ‘We observed an overall quality in the films and a variety of approaches. One of these films particularly moved us, and the jury decided to award it the grand prize. It possesses a certain sensitivity, sincerity, and intelligence in its direction. This film uses a technique that leaves traces, which aligns with the theme it explores: old age and memory. Congratulations to Maria Trigo Teixeira for her film 'It Shouldn’t Rain Tomorrow'. We are also awarding a mention to the film Percebes for its artistic quality, which successfully immersed us in the lives of the people of Algarve.’
On World Animation Day, which this year will be celebrated on Monday, October 28th, Cine Teatro Avenida will screen this year's edition of the award-winning films at 9.30 pm, with free entrance.
