Best Film for "Your Name Is"

17 October 2021

Paulo Patrício's film won the Casa Comum Award for Best Film at Queer Porto.

Queer Porto, which took place between 12 and 16 October, and whose purpose is to exhibit films with gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, intersex and other non-normative sexualities and identities, awarded "Your Name Is" for "presenting a strong social criticism in relation to violence against trans, migrant, sick, poor, made precarious, and invisibilized bodies; for making this criticism from a local story, but one that is also universal; for bringing a new look at the story of Gisberta, combining a documentary approach with an original aesthetic language; and for keeping alive the film's only absent voice in the space of the city."

Paulo Patrício's film is a look at the murder case of Gisberta Salce Jr, a transgender, HIV-positive, drug-addicted and homeless woman who was violently tortured for several days by a group of 14 teenagers in Porto in 2006. "Your Name Is" was produced by Luna Blue Film, Ambiances Asbl and Animals AVPL, and has distribution from Da Curta Metragem Agency.
