"Uncle Thomas, Accounting for the Days" triply awarded in MONSTRA

The animated film "Uncle Thomas, Accounting for the Days" by Regina Pessoa received three awards at MONSTRA, the Lisbon animation festival that celebrated its 20th edition in a virtual format, during the 25th and 31st of May.

"Uncle Thomas, Accounting for the Days" by director Regina Pessoa was a winner at MONSTRA, being recognized with the award for "Best Portuguese Short Film", the "Vasco Granja Award", which was shared with the short film "Purpleboy" by Alexandre Siqueira and the Public Award (with an average public vote of 4.6). 

According to the jury, the short film "Uncle Thomas, Accounting for the Days" is an exceptional work "of animation, music and narrative" that makes universal a "very personal" history of the director, "takes us through a journey through the memory of the author, in a work of animation with a unique touch".

This award sharing, according to Fernando Galrito, artistic director of the Festival, was due to the "extremely high quality of the selection", with the festival choosing to share the award between "two titles of exceptional quality, recognized internationally, which will certainly become two milestones in the rich history of Portuguese animation", argued the jury of the Portuguese competition.

"Uncle Thomas, Accounting for the Days" is Regina Pessoa's most recent film, co-produced between Portugal (Abi Feijó, Ciclope Filmes), France (Reginald de Guillebon, Les Armateurs) and Canada (Julie Roy, ONF), and since its debut it has been widely awarded, reaching awards at acclaimed festivals such as the Annie Awards (USA), Annecy (France), Animamundi, Animafix and Animage (Brazil), Imaginaria, Riga IFF (Latvia) and at Tokyo Anime Award Festival (Japan). The film is also the main focus of the 15th edition of ANIMAR, an educational project with the objective of awakening the interest of children and youth audiences in the world of cinema.

The festival celebrated 20 years of existence adapting to a virtual format due to the world pandemic and made available 12 competitive sessions (169 films) and masterclasses presented by great names in world animation.
