Mary

Synopsis

Mary: the actress; the mother of Jesus; the sister of Lazarus and Martha; the mother of all the Christians; the origin of Christianity or The Origin of the World. Sustained in the subversion of the perception, Mary departs from a pornographic movie of the 70’s in which the lead actress has the same name. Induced by the title, the abstract sound and images, the viewer is led to a misperception of the objectivity of the film's content. Similar to what Courbet made when concealed the identity of the feminine figure in his painting "L'Origine du monde", this film highlights the omission of the sexual act through the physical and chemical manipulation of the film in the darkroom. Through the abstraction caused by the very concrete images, this film is based on an attempt to hinder the viewer's relationship with the images, allowing a reading beyond what is visible, audible and obvious.
