"Nha Sunhu" European Film Awards Candidate

José Magro's short film was nominated for the European Film Awards 2021, at the 44th Drama International Short Film Festival.

"Nha Sunhu", by José Magro (PÂNTANO, BAGABAGA) is a candidate for the European Film Awards 2021. The nomination was atributed by the jury of the international competition of the Drama International Short Film Festival, which took place between 12th and 18th September, in the city of Drama (Greece).

This was the international premiere of the film that follows Issa, a Guinean footballer who plays in Portugal, and is contacted by two filmmakers who want to know more about his life and make a documentary. Exposing the voices behind the camera, Nha Sunhu is a reflection on the gaze, bias, and representation of the other.

José Magro is a director and screenwriter based in Porto, Portugal. His fiction films have been awarded and selected for film festivals all over the world, including Tampere, Vienna, São Paulo, Guadalajara, Melbourne and Cork. He has worked with many distinguished Portuguese directors, namely Manoel de Oliveira, João Pedro Rodrigues, João Rui Guerra da Mata, João Nicolau and Miguel Gonçalves Mendes. In 2019 he was part of the European jury for Go Short - International Short Film Festival Nijmegen, and a jury for the international competition of Queer Lisboa 2020. He was also one of the selected filmmakers for Berlinale Talents program in 2020. He is currently developing his first feature film.
