"Between The Shadows" by Mónica Santos and Alice Guimarães won the award for Best Animated Short Film for which it was nominated for the Sophia 2019 Awards.
The ceremony for the seventh edition of the Sophia Awards was held this Sunday. Created by the Portuguese Academy of Cinema these prizes intend to recognize cinematographic production in 23 categories.
"Between The Shadows" is a stop motion animation, using the technique of pixilation, inspired by the elements of the movies noir and has as scenery the city of Porto, in the 1940s, involved in mystery and shadow games. The story, narrated by Margarida Vila-Nova, accompanies a bank employee (Sara Costa), where hearts settle, in an adventure in search of a stolen heart. The various dangers she faces, in the company of a mysterious man (Gilberto Oliveira), lead her into a dilemma: giving her heart or keeping it to herself.
The film was co-produced by Vivement Lundi! and Um Segundo Filmes and distributed by Agencia. It had a world premiere in June of 2018 at Festival Animafest Zagreb and, in July in Portugal, at Curtas Vila do Conde, having been distinguished in both with the Prize of the Public. Since then he has also been awarded prizes at various festivals, all over the world
